The World Cup.

Is there any other combination of words in football that instil such a sense of excitement and anticipation? Madness celebrations at Croydon Boxpark, platinum blonde haircuts, penalty's, Vuvuzelas, the group of death, THAT Pavard volley, Jabulani's, reminiscing Italia 90 and of course, the kits.

For England fans, The World Cup symbolises a visceral mixed-bag of joy and sorrow. But as football fans, you can only sit back and drink in the vast array of kits on offer. All the big manufacturers wade in. We get new templates, new colourways and we all have a secret favourite that we'd rather wear than our home nation.

So we've looked at every 2022 World Cup kit, from every nation that's qualified. And listed them all in one place. We'd recommend bookmarking this article to keep a reminder of who's wearing what.

We've also looked at every kit in detail: we've assessed the initial reaction on socials, the design language, the bravery in breaking templates and given each kit a hit or miss. 

In total, 9 brands make the kits for the 32 teams. Adidas, Nike, and Puma supply the large majority (26 of 32 teams) and 6 smaller brands make the kits for 6 of the smaller nations.

GROUP A 

Qatar Home & Away

A word on home 
There's nothing special about the host-nations home kit. Nike hasn't exactly pushed the boundaries here and we're not sure the central badge is really working. We'll say this, the sleeve cuffs are interesting...
A word on away
An improvement on the home. This template just looks better with a regular badge placement and the subtle pattern alongside the unusual colourway makes this a hit. 

Ecuador Home & Away

A word on home 
Good to see Marathon getting a look in at Qatar 2022. They've done most things right with this Ecuador home. It's clean, simple and lets the famous colourway do the talking. A hit.
A word on away
Similar to the home, Marathon have kept things simple in terms of template and fit but pushed the boundaries on the colourway and pattern. This is very very wearable. A hit.

Senegal Home & Away

A word on home 
This verdict will cause controversy because this Senegal home isn't for everyone. We're liking the use of the hero chevron, it would certainly be a head-turner out on the stands.
A word on away 
A total miss. What were Puma thinking? This will be a theme throughout most of the Puma aways. The detailing is just strange and the central badge underneath the manufacture logo just looks plain wrong.

Netherlands Home & Away

A word on home 
We can only score The Netherlands by comparing their efforts of yesteryear. The Dutch home shirt is one of the most sought after items in world football. But sadly, this one falls flat.
A word on away 
This is just plain dull. The Nike template is clean but we've come to expect something more outlandish with the Dutch World Cup shirts. A missed opportunity.

GROUP B

England Home & Away

A word on home 
A shirt that will always come under scrutiny, at least on England's shores. The home offering just leaves a lot to be desired. It's fine. It just doesn't feel iconic. We spotted a few Tweets that read 'It gives me knocked-out in the group vibes'. We hope that isn't the case. 
A word on away
The away does bits. We love it. We love the collar, the cuffs and the blue England badge. It just looks better on the red offering. Red shirt, red shorts and red socks is a winner. 

Iran Home & Away

A word on home 
Iran ditched adidas to work with local sports manufacturer Majid. We can't say this has massively paid off. The home shirt does show some promise and we love to see more variety in terms of manufacturer but for us it's the colours here. They feel too washed out. 
A word on away
Much the same on the away. Not a lot to love. 

USA Home & Away

A word on home 
This home shirt is straight fire. We've talked about central badges before and how they divide opinion. This one works because the manufacturer logo hasn't been stacked above or below. The sleeve detailing is great too. A hit for The States. 
A word on away 
This was close to being a hit. The pattern is interesting but the execution just needs a bit more refinement. We'd love to see a similar detailing on the sleeves here. Without it, we're looking at a miss. 

Wales Home & Away

A word on home 
The new adidas logo is clean, super clean. But the overall finish here for Wales is a little bit underwhelming. 
A word on away 
This is basically the same template as the home but it's been elevated by pattern refinements on the collar which for us pushes this kit up a level. A real hit. We can see Welsh fans making some noise in this.

 

GROUP C

Argentina Home & Away

A word on home 
When it comes to classic kits, the best thing is to keep things simple. That's a running theme throughout adidas's Qatar 2022 offerings. This Argentina home lets the famous white & blue stripes do the talking.
A word on away
The colourway looks good, the badge looks sharp and the template is clean. For us, its the flames. Not a huge fan. A miss.  

 

Saudi Arabia Home & Away

A word on home 
A fantastic shirt. There's no two ways about it. This has serious Nigeria 2018 vibes, although not much will top that. We love it when Nike pushes the envelope like this.
A word on away 
It was all looking so promising on the home and whilst we like the attempt of a pattern on the away, it doesn't quite go as hard. A miss. 

Mexico Home & Away

A word on home
We're speaking for the masses here but Mexico home is always a neutrals favourite. The green, red and white just look killer. The execution here is on point, the collar, the cuffs and the pattern all working harmoniously. A top dollar kit.  
A word on away 
Another hit. It's just a glorious shirt. Those patterns, the badge, the three-stripes on the shoulders. Chefs kiss. 

Poland Home & Away

A word on home
It's not quite clicking for us. The shoulder pattern is too subtle to catch the eye and overall its quite a standard Nike template. Not bad but not mind-blowing. 
A word on away
This is just clean and the simpler template works better with the full red and white round collar. A hit here. 
 

GROUP D 

France Home & Away

A word on home
This could be a future Cult Icon. Les Blues always delivers but this year they've gone back to what works best. The simple one button collar. The deep royal blue. The gold badge and Swoosh. This has 1930's vibes and we love it. 
A word on away 
For any other nation, this would be a hit. But the bar is so high for France, they've produced many iconic kits over the years. This away does a lot right but we'd love to have seen that one button collar carry over. A miss.

Australia Home & Away

A word on home
There's not much to comment on here. It has the same shiny effect as the Dutch home and we're not vibing with it.  
A word on away
The badge looks strange here. The green is actually different to the green accents being used on the home. A minty miss. 

 

Denmark Home & Away

A word on home 
Whilst we're not going to wade into politics in this piece, we love this home shirt from Denmark. It's 'muted' badge not only looks cool but makes a statement in such a Danish way. A collectors item, get your hands on one.
A word on away 
Hummel are just consistent this year and this blacked out away for Denmark might be one of their strongest 2022 shirts and thats saying something. A certified hit.

Tunisia Home & Away

A word on home
Oh Kappa, we're usually such big fans. We would have loved to see the iconic Kappa logos running down the sleeves but alas, it wasn't to be.
A word on away 
Same applies to the away, we were hoping for more from the legends at Kappa.

GROUP E

Spain Home & Away

A word on home
The home is very clean. We're big fans of this collar, with the little insert right at the neck-line. It feels like a throwback to mid-nineties adidas. 
A word on away 
The central badge here, stacked underneath the manufacturers logo just isn't landing for us. The colourway and pattern is nice but nothing to write home about.

Costa Rica Home & Away

A word on home 
We love to see New Balance at Qatar 2022 and they haven't disappointed with their efforts on the Costa Rica home. It's clean, its classic and a dark-horse in pick of the tourney.
A word on away
Everything we've said about the home applies here. Love the work on the sleeve cuffs.  

Germany Home & Away

A word on home
Is this the shirt of the tournament? You'll have to keep reading if you want to find out but we'll say this - this is as good as any German shirt we've seen. The long sleeves are killer. Our only niggle is the central logo but it seems to work here.
A word on away 
Love the use of gold on the away and it complements the colourway to perfection. Those gold three-stripes on the shoulders are a thing of beauty. 

Japan Home & Away

A word on home 
Another absolute banger from adidas here. This home shirt is straight fire and we can see tonnes of neutrals picking this up and rocking it at Croydon Boxpark. At least when England aren't playing.
A word on away 
A stunner. This Japan kit selection is really making a case for duo of the tournament. An obvious hit that will become a Cult icon. We'd love to see Japan do well just to keep looking at this week in week out.

 

GROUP E

Belgium Home & Away

A word on home 
We'll let you guys work out what's falling short here. A clue, it's the flames. 
A word on away
The accents just aren't working for us here. The multi-colour spectrum doesn't feel like it has an obvious tie to the Belgium kits. Unless we're missing something?

Canada Home & Away

A word on home
There's nothing wrong with these shirts but Canada themselves admitted they're on a 'different kit development cycle' so this shirt isn't actually new. Feels like a wasted opportunity. 
A word on away 
Same as the home, we thought Canada might take their World Cup qualification as an opportunity to drop a new kit. So many interesting design cues to play around with, the maple leaf for starters. We'd love to see a concept design for an alternative Canada kit. Any takers?

Morocco Home & Away

 A word on home 
There's something oddly satisfying about this home shirt.  The chest stripe just seems to work and it feels like a unique approach from Puma.
A word on away 
Again, a weird away shirt that doesn't quite land for us. Similar to the Senegal template. 

Croatia Home & Away

A word on home
This Croatia home stands out from the crowd. They usually use a check-pattern to good effect and the same can be said with the 2022 edition. We love the way it wraps around the base of the shirt. Almost pixelated in style. 
A word on away 
The away is close to being a hit but we're not sure about the fading check pattern, can't see it being too wearable for Croatia fans. 

 

GROUP G

Brazil Home & Away

A word on home 
One of the most iconic shirts in world football. One of the most iconic shirts in the whole sporting world. Nike do well here, they don't mess with the formula and keep it simple. That's always going to be a hit in our eyes.

Serbia Home & Away

A word on home 
Yes Puma, we rate this a lot. The gold badge, the deep red colourway, the subtle star patterning. Its working. It's clean. 
A word on away
We just don't see the logic behind this away series, it feels very detailed but not in the best way. 

 

Switzerland Home & Away

A word on home
The thin stripes across the shoulder panel are working really well here and the collar is clean. A hit. 
A word on away 
It received a fair bit of backlash on socials, people dubbed the Swiss away as the 'calendar shirt'.

Cameroon Home & Away

Cameroon Home & Away are yet to land - when we know, you'll know!
 

GROUP H

Portugal Home & Away

A word on home
There are a few nations where the bar is high and Portugal is one of them. We tip our hats for the template being pushed but the diagonal colourway is leaving us feeling a bit uninspired. A miss. 
A word on away 
Portugal have had some rocket away shirts in the past but this one leaves a little to be desired. We think this could divide opinion though. A miss in our book but plenty will rate this.

Ghana Home & Away

A word on home 
Ghana have had some bangers in the past. Whilst we've really rated some of the other Puma home offerings this year, this Ghana one falls short. 
A word on away
Another weird away shirt. With the calendar vibe. 

Uruguay Home & Away

A word on home
A low-key icon in the works here. It looks simple to the eye but its the basic ingredients done well that we're really liking. The collar is vintage, the gold Puma badge is smart and the redesigned Uruguay badge is fire. A hit. 
A word on away
This fully embraced the calendar effect and we'd actually say its the strongest of the Puma away offerings. But still a miss. 

South-Korea Home & Away

A word on home
An absolute screamer, the colourway is a delight, the collar is clean and the badge is iconic. A total hit. 
A word on away
A shout for shirt of the tournament. The colourway and pattern combine for devastating effect. We can see neutrals piling onto this. This will still look good in 10 years time. 

Our Home & Away Pick of Qatar 2022

There you have it. Our home pick of the year is the iconic German home kit, (specifically with the long-sleeves) and the Japan away kit for obvious reasons. An obvious hit that will become a Cult icon. We'd love to see Japan do well just to keep looking at this week in week out.
