Some people plough their spare cash into crypto. Others buy property. Or art. Or gold. Or wine.
But if you fancy investing in something a little more interesting, football shirts aren’t a bad bet. We’ve all read the stories about the grails going for mega money – however, you don’t need to break the bank to get started.
Because there are plenty of modern classics that we reckon will soon be worth more than their current value.
Napoli, home – 2022/23
After a 33-year wait, the Scudetto finally returned to Naples. Fans will of course be hoping they don’t have to wait another three decades for Napoli to win the title again. However, it’s still worth remembering the popularity of their last Scudetto-winning jersey from the 1989/90 season – and considering the possibility the success on the pitch this season will have the same impact on the kit.
While the number of jerseys produced for the 2022/23 season is significantly higher than those produced in the early 90s, a jersey associated with such a long-awaited triumph can certainly become a cult classic in the next 20 to 30 years. If you already own this beauty, our advice is simple: keep it somewhere safe.

Borussia Dortmund Special Shirt – 2022/23
OK, we here you – black out kits are every-bloody-where these days. But this is Dortmund. And there is a story behind this offering from Puma. The colour is in acknowledgement of the Ruhr region – where Dortmund is situated – and its relationship with coal.
The limited edition jersey has been extremely well received by Dortmund’s large fan base. Definitely worth investing a few quid in.

AC Milan Special Shirt – 2022/23
Of all the collaborations between fashion designers and football teams, the jersey created by Parisian label Kochè and AC Milan might just be our favourite.
The pattern resembles pixel graphics from the early video games, and the fact that the club's iconic colours were not completely altered, unlike other similar experiments, has cemented the success of the design. That, combined with Milan’s enduring appeal, is likely to significantly increase its value in years to come.

Royale Union Saint Gilloise, Home - 2022/23
The story of a small Belgian team fighting valiantly against some of Europe's behemoths in a fiery Europa League is a recipe for a cult jersey. Add to that the fact that the yellow and blue shirts were produced in-house this season, and you have all the ingredients for a cult classic that will be long remembered. The Royale story is sure to have lasting appeal – just like the kit.

Jamaica Home - 2022/23
It’s a banger, this one. Jamaica have form when it comes to great kits (France ’98 anyone?) and this offering from Adidas is the latest in a long line of classics.
The Reggae Boyz may not win many trophies, but those who own this jersey will have a sought-after piece that is sure to increase in value over time.

Atletico Mineiro - “Manto da Massa” Shirt - 2021
Getting hold of this jersey, especially for European collectors, is already quite a challenge. Created by Le Coq Sportif to celebrate the club's 113th anniversary (bit random, we know), this frankly wild gem is destined to remain an object of desire for years to come. And that means its value will be heading north, too.

San Marino - Any Shirt
Purchasing a San Marino jersey is always a sensible idea. The nation is an underdog par excellence. They haven’t won a game since 2004, for heaven’s sake. But god loves a trier – and so too do shirt collectors it seems. It might be a riskier choice but it’s a romantic one, too.
