Joe was a big football fan, and during rehearsals at Vanilla Studios for the recording of London Calling; he and the rest of the Clash played lots of 5-a-side and used football as a means of bringing the band close together.
JSF FC 'Strummer United', aims to incubate the culture clash of football and music in a World Cup year to promote equality, inclusivity, and diversity, whilst providing opportunities to young people and raising funds for the Foundation and the projects it supports.
Taking inspiration from classic Umbro football styles, the vermillion red jersey is made from 100% recycled polyester. The silhouette is a relaxed retro-fit and features a white contrast crew neckline as well as the iconic Umbro double-diamond taping around the sleeves.
The Joe Strummer crest has been applied as a woven applique with an embroidered key-line to the left chest, whilst the Umbro logo is embroidered to the right chest. The distinctive outline of Joe Strummer is printed just above the right hem of the jersey.
To finish off the jersey; on the back, the numbers 22 and the name Strummer have been applied as heat transfers.
The shirt is priced at £50, with all proceeds going to the Joe Strummer Foundation - which brings underprivileged people together through music, and supporting young musicians through its various nationwide projects.
The shirt is available now from Umbro.com.
