Nike launch the Barcelona 21/22 third shirt to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Olympic Games, which was held in the city way back in 1992.
Whilst it’s been named as the third shirt in the pecking order of shirt releases for the club this season, it is set to be used as the home shirt in the club's Champions League campaign. So it’s a third home shirt… ? Ok, cool.
The design of the third but really it’s a home shirt is the brain child of an artistic process involving young talents from Barcelona which offers a creative reinterpretation of the traditional Blaugrana stripes.
The representation of its neighbourhoods in its design are a standout from the artists behind the design, expressing the close links between the club and city. This is further illustrated by the shirt’s vertical blue and red stripes. The different background designs reflect five key Barcelona neighbourhoods: Poble-sec, Poble Nou, Gràcia, Raval and Les Corts. The buildings and cultural spaces of each of these districts are depicted in reinterpreted silhouettes, alongside the scarves popular with fans on match days.
The shirt will be debuted at Camp Nou on Tuesday, 14th September – the club’s opening match in the Champions League group stage against Bayern Munich.
